The "5 a day" Association is holding its 17th "5 a day" Professional Conference under the motto "Transforming the consumption of the future: health, fruit and vegetables". The event will take place in Madrid, on March 7 at 9:30 a.m., at the Mercamadrid Administrative Center. All sectors of the agri-food sector are invited to a day full of knowledge, networking and new opportunities.

Once again, it will be a must-attend event and a point of reference for the international gathering of the sector, as well as a broad showcase of the latest machinery and technologies applied to the industry, and an excellent business platform. Once again, it will coincide with the International Exhibition of Machinery and Equipment for Wineries and Bottling ( ENOMAQ ), for Olive Oil Mills and Packaging ( OLEOMAQ ) and for the Brewing Industry ( E-BEER ). The content of the different halls offers important synergies in an unbeatable commercial showcase with the latest in machinery and technology applied to the industry. The Catholic Agricultural Cooperative COOP. V. de Cocentaina , in collaboration with the Fira de Tots Sants, Cocentaina City Council , is organizing the fifth International EVOO Forum, Technical Conference and EVOO Competition. For the fifth consecutive year, this event will bring together the Extra Virgin Olive Oil sector for three days in Cocentaina (Alicante). Interesting technical sessions that include round tables and conferences, showcookings and tastings with the interaction of the public and, as a central activity, the International EVOO Competition, whose prizes will be awarded on the third and last day of the event, Friday, January 31, 2025. These awards are given by the prestigious Official Tasting Panel of the Valencian Community in five categories: three awards in the general category and two special awards: for the best organic EVOO and the best EVOO of the Valencian Community. These awards are completed with the recognition of the organization to different personalities or entities for their work in promoting and defending Extra Virgin Olive Oil. On Wednesday, January 29, the "AOVE in feminine: women protagonists in the cooperative economic model" conference will take place, organized by the Association of Women of Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain (AMCAE) and financed by the MAPA. On January 15, 2025 , the horticulture sector has a key date with the conference entitled “Innovation and Challenges in Horticulture” , an event that will bring together experts, companies and professionals in a forum for the exchange of knowledge. The conference, organized by Tierras Agricultura magazine and Grupo Interempresas, will be held in an environment designed to foster connections between the main players in the sector. Program of the day 09:00 - Opening: The event will begin with a welcome by Ángel Pérez, Director of the Agricultural Area of Grupo Interempresas , and representatives of Banco Sabadell and SOAGA , under the moderation of Alejandro de Vega, Editorial Coordinator of Tierras Agricultura . Block I: Trends in the horticulture sector This first block will start at 09:30 with the presentation by SOAGA, followed by Enrique Cadiñanos, from Bejo Ibérica, who will address the importance of seed quality in horticultural varieties. In addition, there will be an additional presentation before giving way to a coffee break and networking at 10:15 . Block II: The challenges in plant health of horticultural crops The session will resume at 11:00 with a focus on plant health. Among the most notable presentations are: Hugo Moreno (CAR UPM-CSIC), who will talk about the use of Artificial Intelligence in weed control. Representatives from BAYER and FMC will share their perspectives on innovations in the field of phytosanitary products. The Economics, Post-harvest and Industry Working Groups of the Spanish Society of Horticultural Sciences (SECH) are organizing a new online Congress on "The agri-food challenge in the face of climate change" that will take place online on December 3 and 4 . The challenges of the agri-food sector in the current climate change scenario and the 2030 Agenda require a response from the entire agri-food chain, from production, through industry, process improvement, marketing and responsible food consumption, and influencing the responsibility of society itself. These challenges become challenges and opportunities that will be addressed at the Congress. The conference will be organised in sessions that will include oral presentations and invited speakers with works related to fruit and vegetable production, post-harvest, circular economy and environmental sustainability.

The Plant Health and Certification Service is the technical unit that carries out the functions of control and certification of seeds and nursery plants, the management of surveillance and control plans for plant pests and diseases, the marketing and use of phytosanitary products and their evaluation, and technical advice to the production sector on plant health and seed production.

The VIII Technical Forum on Plant Health organized by the Center for Plant Health and Certification will take place on November 28 in the Auditorium of the Mediterranean Agricultural Institute of Zaragoza

Within the framework of the First Strategic Plan for Organic Production in La Rioja, the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural World and Environment is organizing a technical and field workshop: Organic olive grove management. Experimental farm at La Grajera farm , aimed at farmers and technicians. Its objective is to delve into the agronomic management of olive cultivation in organic production: varieties, planting frames, pest and disease management, fertilization, cultural practices, harvesting... The olive grove and the institutional organic oil mill of the La Grajera estate will be visited . Its capacity to promote global exports in the sector makes it the commercial connection point for all the professionals that make up the entire value chain, in addition to having consolidated itself as a framework for innovation in the fruit and vegetable market.

The Andalusian Living Lab is established as an entity aimed at promoting and implementing innovative and sustainable technological solutions aimed at improving the health of olive grove soil. It is part of the European LIVINGSOILL project (Healthy Soil to Permanent Crops Living Labs) funded with 12 million euros, of which 2 million are destined for Andalusian olive groves. The University of Jaén will be responsible for coordinating this Living Lab, which also includes 15 Andalusian entities with recognised R&D&I activity related to olive growing. The programme for the presentation event includes three round tables that will focus on the following topics: Soil health, challenges and ecosystem services. Innovation projects: Utilization of olive grove by-products within the framework of the circular economy. Pilot experiences of olive oil companies aimed at improving soil health. In addition, a conference will be held on digitalisation in the olive sector.

On September 27 , at the IFAPA Rancho de la Merced facilities in Jerez de la Frontera, the second open day of the seminar will be held. The first open day of the 53rd Seminar for Horticultural Technicians and Specialists will be held on September 23rd . It is organized by the Andalusian Institute for Research and Training in Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production (IFAPA) in collaboration with COITAND and MAPA. On September 18, the Cortijo El Puerto farm, located in Lora del Río, Seville , will be the setting for the presentation of the results of the Tic4bio operating group, with an innovative ICT tool designed to improve the efficient management of water and biodiversity in the agricultural sector. This project seeks to integrate digitalization into agri-food processes, optimizing the use of natural resources and promoting sustainability. In this way, decision-making will be favored both to make efficient use of irrigation water and water used in agroindustry, and to calculate the degree of biodiversity on the farm and be able to improve it, responding to the environmental concern and conservation of natural resources of the most demanding market. The event, organised by Ecovalia and other entities in the sector, will begin at 10:00 am with the opening by leading figures in the field of agriculture and innovation. Every year, the renowned Purple Garlic Fair is held at the Las Pedroñeras Exhibition and Exhibition Centre. This event brings together around 40 exhibitors and attracts around 6,000 visitors interested in the various sectors related to garlic. The sectors represented include all stages of garlic processing and packaging, as well as herbs and medicinal products, phytosanitary products, seeds, marketing and publishing, machinery and equipment for sowing, harvesting, storage, transport, weighing, packaging and conditioning, as well as a variety of agricultural vehicles. Workshop on tools to improve biological control of two very important pests in tomato crops, the moth Tuta absoluta and the scab mite Aculops lycopersici . During the workshop, data obtained from two projects in which the IRTA Sustainable Plant Protection Programme participates will be presented. On the one hand, the results of studies carried out within the framework of an Operational Group to promote the use of parasitoids in the management of lepidoptera will be shown. On the other hand, a visit will be made to an experimental greenhouse where, within the framework of the European ADOPT-IPM project , two biological control tools have been integrated to combat the two most important pests affecting tomato crops.
