The "5 a day" Association is holding its 17th "5 a day" Professional Conference under the motto "Transforming the consumption of the future: health, fruit and vegetables". The event will take place in Madrid, on March 7 at 9:30 a.m., at the Mercamadrid Administrative Center. All sectors of the agri-food sector are invited to a day full of knowledge, networking and new opportunities.

Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Andalusian Government in collaboration with Fresón de Palos , the Demofarm demonstration day on "Demonstration and dissemination of tools for digital transformation in strawberries" will take place on March 6 at the Andalusian Cooperative Society Santa María de La Rábida, Fresón de Palos. Once again, the fruit conference will be held, focusing on sustainable apple production and featuring presentations by leading international experts in the sector. The talks will cover key aspects such as the role of chill hours, the latest innovations in plant material, improving fruit quality and control strategies for Halyomorpha halys and Glomerella. This is a relevant opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge and share experiences with other professionals in the sector. On January 15, 2025 , the horticulture sector has a key date with the conference entitled “Innovation and Challenges in Horticulture” , an event that will bring together experts, companies and professionals in a forum for the exchange of knowledge. The conference, organized by Tierras Agricultura magazine and Grupo Interempresas, will be held in an environment designed to foster connections between the main players in the sector. Program of the day 09:00 - Opening: The event will begin with a welcome by Ángel Pérez, Director of the Agricultural Area of Grupo Interempresas , and representatives of Banco Sabadell and SOAGA , under the moderation of Alejandro de Vega, Editorial Coordinator of Tierras Agricultura . Block I: Trends in the horticulture sector This first block will start at 09:30 with the presentation by SOAGA, followed by Enrique Cadiñanos, from Bejo Ibérica, who will address the importance of seed quality in horticultural varieties. In addition, there will be an additional presentation before giving way to a coffee break and networking at 10:15 . Block II: The challenges in plant health of horticultural crops The session will resume at 11:00 with a focus on plant health. Among the most notable presentations are: Hugo Moreno (CAR UPM-CSIC), who will talk about the use of Artificial Intelligence in weed control. Representatives from BAYER and FMC will share their perspectives on innovations in the field of phytosanitary products. Juanjo López , Director of Operations at Agriindus, will analyze agricultural and industrial integration in horticulture . The block will conclude with a round table at 12:15 , focusing on the importance of technical advice in the management of horticultural crops. Closing and networking The day will end with a closing ceremony at 1:30 p.m. , followed by a Spanish wine to facilitate networking among attendees. The Economics, Post-harvest and Industry Working Groups of the Spanish Society of Horticultural Sciences (SECH) are organizing a new online Congress on "The agri-food challenge in the face of climate change" that will take place online on December 3 and 4 . The challenges of the agri-food sector in the current climate change scenario and the 2030 Agenda require a response from the entire agri-food chain, from production, through industry, process improvement, marketing and responsible food consumption, and influencing the responsibility of society itself. These challenges become challenges and opportunities that will be addressed at the Congress. The conference will be organised in sessions that will include oral presentations and invited speakers with works related to fruit and vegetable production, post-harvest, circular economy and environmental sustainability.

The Plant Health and Certification Service is the technical unit that carries out the functions of control and certification of seeds and nursery plants, the management of surveillance and control plans for plant pests and diseases, the marketing and use of phytosanitary products and their evaluation, and technical advice to the production sector on plant health and seed production.

Technical Conference "Results obtained in the study of fertigation in strawberry, raspberry and blueberry crops. Campaign 23/24" (IFAPA Huelva, November 28, 2024) in which the book " Strawberry varieties in Huelva: a century of history (1923-2023)" will also be presented.

On October 4th, at 9:30 am, the DiH Datalife Hub will organize a day together with Kiwi Atlántico to present its digital fruit demonstrator , implemented within the framework of the HIBA+ project . The purpose of this event is to present, at a sector level, an advanced experimental solution for monitoring and managing a kiwi fruit farm in Galicia, which could be applied to other fruit and even vegetable crops. The field day will take place at the farm located in Bonaval – Burgueira , while the talk and lunch will take place at the Nueva Colina – Tomiño hotel. In addition to the presentation of the center and the project, there will be a guided tour of the facilities , where the implemented technology can be observed in operation . The DIH DATAlife Hub is an initiative developed within the framework of the Galician Strategy for Digital Innovation Hubs, promoted by the Xunta de Galicia through the Ministry of Economy, Employment and Industry.
