The “Va de Agro” meeting brings together Operational Groups and Innovative Projects from 15 European countries in Galicia
Innovation and cooperation as key tools at the service of current challenges. That is the premise of the meeting “Va de Agro. Co-innovating in the agri-food and forestry sector” that took place on September 8 in Santiago de Compostela. An event organized by the Operational Groups Avienergy , Micoalga-Feed , Proteinleg and Tirac , and coordinated by the Galician Business-University Foundation and which is part of the activities of the dissemination plan of the innovation projects of these Operational Groups, 80% co-financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of the European Union and 20% by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, within the framework of the National Rural Development Program 2014-2022.
The event brought together more than 30 regional, national and European projects . Its objectives have been:
- Present advances and innovative results
- Promote the transfer of results to the sector
- Put the different actors in the field in contact to explore possibilities for joint collaboration
The central themes that have structured the programming have been the following:
- The reduction of antibiotics in livestock
- Food sustainability
- The revaluation of by-products and waste in agriculture and livestock (energy use of manure or creation of new agricultural inputs for the improvement of organic crops)
- Innovation and biodiversity
News
Projects such as Bioproinsect attended the meeting , which seeks solutions in the insect -based food sector, such as obtaining flour from worms as a product for animal feed.
Work such as that of the Proteinleg Operational Group , which has obtained a substitute for tuna with a product of plant origin based on legumes , has also attracted attention . This project, which focuses on traditional varieties of legumes, aims to promote alternatives to proteins of animal origin and reduce the dependence of livestock farming on soybeans.
The symposium included a block of presentations and round tables in which some 16 innovative projects participated, as well as an exhibition part where 33 companies gathered.
The success of the event has encouraged the organizers to become an annual event and repeat a next edition. And, given the capacity, the interventions were broadcast live, so the recording of the event can be consulted here .
