Description

The AGRIREFIN Operational Group was established to develop an Agricultural Biorefinery project for the valorization of plant residues from intensive horticulture and the production of advanced bioethanol, compost, and other bioproducts, for future promotion. The proposed project met the objectives of the circular economy applied to the agricultural sector, utilizing synergies to close material cycles, optimizing production and consumption systems, and adopting new agricultural business models in which crop residues become raw materials for other business activities.

Objectives

The objective of this Operational Group is the valorization of biowaste from intensive horticulture through an agricultural biorefinery for the production of bioethanol and other bioproducts. The proposed project integrates two sectors (and associated technologies): intensive horticulture, the environmental management of the plant waste generated by it and its conversion into compost, and the main innovation factor, represented by the biotechnological conversion of plant waste into bioethanol and other bioproducts obtained before and/or after the fermentation process of the initial organic matter.
