This publication is a compilation of Operational Groups and Innovative Projects in the field of genetic improvement in livestock in Spain and Europe.

The Technical Dossier no. 123: “Grups operatius a Catalunya. Call 2018” is dedicated to the Groups Operatius developed within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan (PEPAC 2023-2027), and includes the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems, also linked to AKIS (Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System).

"Technical Dossier No. 123: “Operational groups in Catalonia. Call 2018” is dedicated to the Operational Groups developed within the framework of the CAP Strategic Plan (PEPAC 2023-2027), and taking into account the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems, also known as AKIS (Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System).

The report summarizes the first funding period (2014-2022) of the European Innovation Partnership for Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP-Agri) operational groups, implemented at supra-autonomous level in Spain.

Summary of the characterization of the beef cattle sector.

The manual is the result of a complex review work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food together with the Interprofessional Association of Beef (PROVACUNO), in close and essential collaboration with the National Committee of Experts in Classification of Channels and Prices regarding classification procedures, as well as with the company Applus+España regarding metrology

The aim of the study is to draw up a definition as complete as possible of the current characteristics of the entire beef sector in Spain to use as a starting point for formulating policies, with proposals and solutions that will allow for the creation of a solid future for the entire sector and seek a presence of our products in the community and international markets.

Design and implementation of a tool (GIS) to support decision-making for the management of extensive livestock farming and pasture management, combining monitoring of pastures with remote sensing and livestock with GPS.

Increasing the added value of meat from fighting cattle based on the environmental, economic and social sustainability of its production in rural environments.

Improving the added value of extensive beef through environmental labelling and marketing on a blockchain platform.

Measuring GHG emissions from individual cows on dairy farms and their relationship to animal production, functionality and genetics will allow for the selection of animals that are more efficient in their use of feed and with lower GHG emissions.

A system for monitoring, diagnosing and managing health and well-being information and its relationship with production, functionality and genetics in dairy cattle to obtain disease-resistant animals and reduce the use of antibiotics.

Creation of a marketing structure that analyses the current situation, develops a strategic internationalisation plan and that stimulates and facilitates the export of genetic material from select breeds.

Digitalisation, capture and use of the information available in dairy cattle farms with robotic milking in Spain to reinforce their sustainability. Capture the daily information collected by the milking robot at the level of each animal and relate it with data on foot health and udder health to select the animals that best adapt to robotic milking.
