On January 29, the networking event " AKIS in action: Raising Awareness of Farmers' Role in the Agri- Food Supply Chain " will take place online via Zoom . Organised by modernAKIS , the European initiative seeking to boost the modernisation of agriculture through more efficient and effective Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS), this event is part of its series of networking events "AKIS in Action" which seeks to interconnect Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS) actors across Europe. The prominent role of farmers in the agri-food value chain Farmers play a crucial role in the sustainability and resilience of the agri-food supply chain, although their contributions are often underestimated. The aim of the event is to highlight the importance of farmers in this sphere. Initiatives designed to strengthen connections between farmers and other supply chain actors will be presented, fostering collaboration and innovation. The event will serve as a platform to share valuable knowledge, exchange best practices and discuss practical solutions to improve farmers’ participation and visibility in the food supply chain. This year, EUFRAS resumes the COFFEE Break event series started last year, and has already announced its first event of 2025, to be held on 23 January at 10:00 CET via Zoom . This time, the experience of the COREnet project, entitled "Short Food Supply Chains (SFSC) Advisory Network" will be explored. EUFRAS is the European Forum for Agricultural and Rural Advisory Services , an organisation that connects professionals and organisations dedicated to providing advisory services in the agricultural and rural field across Europe. Until September 5, those professionals who want to get started in promoting R&D&I projects can apply to participate in the new Seminar for Advisors on R&D&I Projects of the European Union , which the CDTI is organizing between October 14 and 17, 2024. This is the 29th edition of an event aimed primarily at organisations with the capacity to participate in Horizon Europe , and specifically, at people whose main activity is supporting the participation of Spanish entities in research, technological development and innovation activities financed by the European Union through Horizon Europe and related initiatives. The aim is for participants to acquire the necessary skills to advise their researchers, their organisations or other entities in order to guide and adapt their proposals to the calls for Horizon Europe , working in a network with other organisations. Additionally, for those attendees familiar with R&D&I projects, the Seminar contributes to training them to prepare and elaborate proposals in their area of competence. The first open day of the 53rd Seminar for Horticultural Technicians and Specialists will be held on September 23rd . It is organized by the Andalusian Institute for Research and Training in Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production (IFAPA) in collaboration with COITAND and MAPA. The event will take place at the IES El Picacho , in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and will begin at 10:30 a.m. The programme includes a presentation on premium horticulture and a historical overview of IFAPA in Chipiona, followed by several technical presentations that will address key topics such as: The short digital marketing channel in Andalusia. The registry of operators authorized to issue plant health passports. The agronomic behaviour of zucchini cultivars in Tenerife. Aspects of circular economy and the use of leachates in microalgae production. In addition, the impacts of microplastics in horticulture and their impact on health will be explored, among other topics of interest to the agri-food sector. The Technical Conference organized by the Agrarian Technological Institute of the Junta de Castilla y León ( ITACyL ) and the Wine Technology Platform ( PTV ) aims to highlight innovation in the wine sector . The report “ What matters is milk: Roadmap for a dairy sector that is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable ” will be presented on July 4 in Madrid. Promoted by the Interprofessional Láctea ( InLac ), the study has been coordinated by Professor Manuel Laínez Andrés and lays the foundations for a more sustainable future for the Spanish dairy sector, highlighting global environmental sustainability objectives, aligned with the European strategy “From farm to table”. It also includes commitments to progress and a set of indicators to quantify them. To give visibility to the initiatives that are already being carried out in the sector to promote sustainability, a spot called “ Sustainable without knowing it ” has been created, which will be shown during the day, as part of a new communication campaign by the interprofessional. The event will bring together a large number of stakeholders from the dairy sector, from suppliers of raw materials for animal feed to livestock farmers, members of leading cooperatives and the processing industry. On July 3, the conference "Models of international transfers: university and business" will take place, which is part of the EIV-UPM 2024 activities program at the Boadilla del Monte Campus.
