PigStun Project Webinar - Spain: Presentation of four alternatives to CO2 stunning

The PigStun* project aims to encourage EU pig slaughterhouses that use high concentrations of carbon dioxide to stun pigs to adopt more welfare-friendly systems by testing the technical specifications and feasibility of four promising alternatives. During this webinar, the following alternatives will be presented: argon reconditioning system, helium system, optimized CAS process, and improved electrical stunning system. A description of the system will be provided, along with the advantages and disadvantages of these alternatives and their impact on the economy, the environment, labor, and animal welfare. During the webinar there will be time for questions and discussion. PigStun is the beneficiary of a grant agreement signed with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) under the Single Market Programme – Food Strand, aiming to improve pig welfare. The PigStun consortium is comprised of beneficiaries and associated partners from the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, and Spain, including academic research partners, slaughterhouse equipment developers, and five pig slaughtering companies. The 17th edition of the International Fair for Animal Production ( FIGAN ) will take place from March 25 to 28, 2025 at the Feria de Zaragoza facilities. New webinar on the application of artificial intelligence in animal health

The Subdirectorate General for Innovation and Digitalisation has organised a new webinar of the Observatory of the Digitalisation of the Spanish Agri-Food Sector . With this event, it resumes its series of webinars after the summer break, addressing key issues related to digitalisation in the agri-food sector. The Digitalization Observatory is an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) in collaboration with the Cajamar Cooperative Group , and is developed thanks to the Next Generation funds from the European Union . The next webinar, entitled "Application of artificial intelligence in animal health monitoring" , will be held virtually on September 25 , from 12:00 to 14:00 . It will delve into the applicability of artificial intelligence systems for monitoring and controlling health in livestock farms, exploring new opportunities to improve efficiency and sustainability in the sector.
