The College of Agricultural Engineers of Catalonia participates as a collaborator in the AI & Big Data Congress , which will take place between October 9 and 10, 2024 in Barcelona. Agriculture and the agri-food chain are beginning to apply this type of advanced technology and should not be disconnected from the current state and future of this area of knowledge. PROGRAM

Startup Olé , a major international event that brings together startups, investors, universities, students, companies and administrations to generate collaboration opportunities , is holding a new edition between October 8 and 10, 2024 , in various locations in the city of Salamanca . Among the areas it addresses, there is also entrepreneurship in the agricultural and agri-food sectors. Around 3,000 attendees gather around round tables, investment events or hackathons, among other activities. For example, on October 9th the round table "Innovation and sustainability in Conscious Agriculture" will take place, with two different parts. In the first part, Luis M Luengo, founder of Concious Agriculture, will participate as moderator, with the participation of Ana Digón, president of the Spanish Association of Regenerative Agriculture; David Nafria, Head of the Sativum project of the Agrarian Technological Institute of the Junta de Castilla y León; and Jesús Rodríguez, representing regenerative livestock farming in Salamanca. The second part will feature Óscar Lorenzo, president of the Unit of Excellence in Agricultural Production and Environment; Gonzalo Palomo, president of the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture and Agroecology; and Félix del Villar, farmer and winegrower in Rueda. Its capacity to promote global exports in the sector makes it the commercial connection point for all the professionals that make up the entire value chain, in addition to having consolidated itself as a framework for innovation in the fruit and vegetable market.

On October 4th, at 9:30 am, the DiH Datalife Hub will organize a day together with Kiwi Atlántico to present its digital fruit demonstrator , implemented within the framework of the HIBA+ project . The purpose of this event is to present, at a sector level, an advanced experimental solution for monitoring and managing a kiwi fruit farm in Galicia, which could be applied to other fruit and even vegetable crops. The field day will take place at the farm located in Bonaval – Burgueira , while the talk and lunch will take place at the Nueva Colina – Tomiño hotel. In addition to the presentation of the center and the project, there will be a guided tour of the facilities , where the implemented technology can be observed in operation . The DIH DATAlife Hub is an initiative developed within the framework of the Galician Strategy for Digital Innovation Hubs, promoted by the Xunta de Galicia through the Ministry of Economy, Employment and Industry. Event dedicated to showcasing the latest innovations in agricultural mechanization from various implement companies, working with Fendt tractors . Hundreds of them meet at this multitudinous meeting that in previous editions has brought together thousands of farmers interested in the latest technologies applied to production . This year, the town of Manzanares (Ciudad Real) is hosting this field demonstration.

The Andalusian Living Lab is established as an entity aimed at promoting and implementing innovative and sustainable technological solutions aimed at improving the health of olive grove soil. It is part of the European LIVINGSOILL project (Healthy Soil to Permanent Crops Living Labs) funded with 12 million euros, of which 2 million are destined for Andalusian olive groves. The University of Jaén will be responsible for coordinating this Living Lab, which also includes 15 Andalusian entities with recognised R&D&I activity related to olive growing. The programme for the presentation event includes three round tables that will focus on the following topics: Soil health, challenges and ecosystem services. Innovation projects: Utilization of olive grove by-products within the framework of the circular economy. Pilot experiences of olive oil companies aimed at improving soil health. In addition, a conference will be held on digitalisation in the olive sector.

This biennial event serves as a meeting place for researchers and professionals involved in organic waste management, in order to analyse and discuss its treatment from technical and social perspectives, highlighting the transfer of knowledge to the industrial sector. The 8th Conference will be organised by the RNM271 (UCOGREENING) group, belonging to the Department of Inorganic Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, in the Chemical Engineering Area of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Córdoba. On September 27 , at the IFAPA Rancho de la Merced facilities in Jerez de la Frontera, the second open day of the seminar will be held. This session, which will begin at 9:00 a.m. , will feature a series of technical presentations focused on innovation and sustainability in Andalusian horticulture. Highlights include: BIHOX® oxygenation technology and its impact on zucchini and watermelon crops. The biomass potential of Andalusian horticulture and the challenges for the circular bioeconomy. On September 25th, there will be an open day for the closing ceremony of the Ecolanzadera project and the presentation of the Agroecological Rural Entrepreneurship Guide. This project, carried out between December 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, launched a theoretical-practical training program , divided into several modules, providing participants with knowledge to: The transformation of your farm to models based on agroecological management. The incorporation of people into agricultural holdings with agroecological potential. Entrepreneurship based on agroecological agricultural models. The project included advising 5 farms in the process of converting to organic farming and the development of a Guide for Agroecological Entrepreneurship. The Spanish Fertilizer Trade Association (ACEFER) is holding the sixth edition of the National Congress on Fertilization on September 25 and 26 at the Puerta América Hotel in Madrid , under the motto “Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence” . The year 2024 has been crucial for the agricultural sector, with numerous mobilisations at European and national level highlighting the importance of agriculture and food. Energy industry and its relationship with fertilizers During the congress, key topics will be addressed such as the fertilizer market and regulations , the current situation of the agricultural sector, and technological and artificial intelligence advances in the field . The energy industry and its relationship with fertilizers, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and the carbon footprint in the sector will also be analyzed. There will be an exhibition area where startups and established companies will be able to showcase and advertise their latest technologies and services. The Spanish Association for Conservation Agriculture Living Soils (AEACSV) will hold a second free field day on conservation agriculture in extensive crops in September. This event will be held on September 25 at the "Casa Roig" farm, located between Alpera (Albacete) and Ayora (Valencia). The Casa de Roig estate, with 436 hectares, of which 300 are dedicated to extensive crops and the rest to lavender and vineyards with plant cover, is a model to follow in the region. During the day, topics such as soil management, crop rotation, soil cover, nitrogen fertilization and the environmental benefits of these practices will be discussed. The event will include four thematic stations: Station 1: 30 years of direct sowing in dry and irrigated land in Albacete, by Miguel Barnuevo. Station 2: From direct sowing to ground cover, by Vicente Bodas, agricultural director at Agrisat. Station 3: Farmer experiences, from theory to practice, by Juan José Puertas, farmer and farm owner. Station 4: Private sector solutions to support direct seeding eco-regimes. Between September 12 and October 2, Miguel Hernández University has launched a series of conferences entitled "The Challenges of Agriculture: Technological Innovation and Digitalization ", which will be held in Orihuela, Elche and Pilar de la Horadada. Specifically: September 12: 19:00h. Orihuela. La Lonja. 24 September: 19:00h Elche. Congress Centre. Filet de Fora, 1. October 2: 7:00 p.m. Pilar de la Horada. Coop. Surinver. The cycle has the financial support of the Alicante Provincial Council and is organised in collaboration with the town councils of Orihuela, Elche and Pilar de la Horadada. The activity is aimed at farmers, agricultural professionals and the general public. Orihuela was the setting for the first session, which was held at La Lonja. Irrigation using soil probes, nitrate control and precision agriculture were the focus of the conferences. On the 24th, precision irrigation and the use of drones for diagnostic imaging will be the main topics. At the conference scheduled for October 2, high-tech greenhouse management, precision irrigation and the use of drones will be the main topics of the program. The EU Organic Awards, which recognise excellence in the organic value chain, will be presented in Brussels on 23 September . They comprise 7 categories and 8 individual awards. The EU Eco Awards are an opportunity to recognise the work of various actors along the organic value chain who have developed an excellent, innovative, sustainable and inspiring project that produces real added value for organic production and consumption. The award ceremony will coincide with EU Organic Farming Day and will be attended by representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, the European Economic and Social Committee, the Committee of the Regions, COPA-COGECA and IFOAM Organics Europe. The winners will have the opportunity to explain their project to the public. Farm to Table Strategy Organic production has been identified as playing a key role in achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal, the Farm to Fork Strategy and the Biodiversity Strategy. The Commission also adopted the Action Plan for the Development of Organic Production in March 2021, including the launch of annual awards recognising excellence in the organic value chain. For this third edition of the EU Eco Awards, any actor or institution along the organic value chain with a noteworthy project was encouraged to apply. Each submitted project had to contribute to increased affordability and/or accessibility of organic products in the EU.

The first open day of the 53rd Seminar for Horticultural Technicians and Specialists will be held on September 23rd . It is organized by the Andalusian Institute for Research and Training in Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Organic Production (IFAPA) in collaboration with COITAND and MAPA. The event will take place at the IES El Picacho , in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and will begin at 10:30 a.m. The programme includes a presentation on premium horticulture and a historical overview of IFAPA in Chipiona, followed by several technical presentations that will address key topics such as: The short digital marketing channel in Andalusia. The registry of operators authorized to issue plant health passports. The agronomic behaviour of zucchini cultivars in Tenerife. Aspects of circular economy and the use of leachates in microalgae production. Carmen Martínez Ramiro , from the Department of Training and Equal Opportunities of Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España , will participate in the round table "The role of rural women and eco-feminism. Rural women and policies" , which will take place within the framework of the III Congress "Rota, in a feminist key" between September 21 and 22. The needs of rural women and the policies that are necessary to be able to transform the rural and urban worlds into equality will be addressed. During her speech, Martínez Ramiro will outline the various strategies in the field of equality , along with the training programmes aimed at members related to the agri-food cooperative movement . She will also discuss her role as technical coordinator in the Association of Women of Agri-food Cooperatives of Spain (AMCAE) , created in 2013. This organisation represents and protects the interests of women members of cooperatives in the agri-food sector in Spain. Inaugural lecture by Carmen Calvo, former Vice President of the Government Carmen Calvo, current President of the Council of State and former Vice President of the Government, will give the opening lecture of this congress. The Castillo de Orus farm, with 800 hectares, of which 640 are dedicated to extensive crops using direct sowing, is a benchmark in the region. During the day, topics such as soil management, crop rotation, soil cover, nitrogen fertilization and the environmental benefits of these practices will be addressed. The event will include four themed stations and a dynamic demonstration of machinery: Station 1: No-tillage and its effects on the soil, by Jesús Ángel Betrán, director of the Agroenvironmental Laboratory of the Government of Aragon.
