FAO launches recognition for young farmers in Europe and Central Asia on the occasion of its 80th anniversary.

The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia has launched the "FAO REU Recognition of Young Farmers in Europe and Central Asia" initiative, a distinction that seeks to highlight and reward the commitment, innovation, and leadership of young farmers in the region.

This recognition is part of the commemoration of FAO's 80th anniversary , which takes place in 2025, and includes three main categories :

  • Innovation in agri-food systems , aimed at those who implement innovative practices that promote sustainability and integrate traditional knowledge.
  • Community development , for young farmers and organizations that promote positive change in rural areas and encourage knowledge sharing.
  • Inclusion and empowerment , which recognizes work to promote gender equality, the inclusion of marginalized groups, and youth empowerment.

FAO encourages young farmers and agricultural organizations from across the region to apply and contribute to raising awareness of the transformative initiatives that are shaping the present and future of the agri-food sector.

The deadline for submitting applications is August 12, 2025 .

This distinction represents an opportunity to highlight the essential role that new generations play in the transition toward more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food systems.
