Description

People, the central axis of agri-food cooperatives at the Agri-Food Cooperatives Chair conference

The Chair of Agri-Food Cooperatives, together with Cooperatives Agro-alimentàries of the Valencian Community and Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España, is organizing the conference "People: The Epicenter of Agri-Food Cooperativism" on Monday, June 16. This event seeks to highlight the central role of people in the development and sustainability of the agri-food cooperative model.

The event, which will be held in person at the Caixa Popular headquarters in the Paterna Technology Park (Valencia), is sponsored by the Generalitat Valenciana, Caixa Popular, and the University of Valencia. It will bring together institutional, academic, and professional representatives from the sector.

The session will open with a working breakfast. The official opening will then be led by Pilar Alguacil Marí, director of the Agri-Food Cooperatives Chair; Enrique Bellés Llopis, director of Agri-Food Cooperatives of the Valencian Community; and Andrés Lluch Figueres, director general of Labor, Cooperativism, and Occupational Safety of the Valencian Government.

One of the highlights of the day will be the presentation of the book "Myths (and Realities) of Agri-Food Cooperativism," by Tomás Rojas Pacheco, Director of Finance and Institutional Relations at Cooperativas Agro-alimentarias de España. This publication addresses, from an analytical and informative perspective, some of the most widespread—and sometimes erroneous—beliefs about cooperativism in the agri-food sector.

The day will continue with a roundtable discussion focusing on key topics such as taxation and contributions for members of agri-food cooperatives, land-use cooperatives, and the Social Security System (SAT). University of Valencia professors María Pilar Bonet Sánchez and Manuel Alegre Nueno, specialists in Financial and Tax Law and Labor and Social Security Law, respectively, will participate.

The labor integration of migrants in the agri-food sector will also be analyzed, through the presentation of practical experiences promoted by cooperatives. This panel will feature Myriam Mestre Froissard, a technician from Cooperatives Agro-alimentàries of the Valencian Community, and Lorena Moure Gómez, a representative from the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migration.

The event will close with the institutional closing by Cirilo Arnandis Nuñez, president of Cooperatives Agro-alimentàries of the Valencian Community, and Mª Àngels Ramón-llin, general director of Agricultural and Livestock Production of the Generalitat Valenciana.

With this event, the Agrifood Cooperatives Chair reaffirms its commitment to reflecting on and disseminating the current challenges facing cooperativism, focusing on its core value: people.
