Biodiversity Foundation Project: Promotion of domestically produced natural fibers in the Spanish textile sector
- Type Project
- Execution 2017 -2018
- Scope Europeo
- Main source of financing European Social Fund (ESF)
- Project website Web proyecto (Fundación Biodiversidad)
Project to boost the fashion sector made with sustainable, local textile fibers. Natural fibers are in fashion, and there is great potential to increase the consumption of domestically produced natural fibers such as cotton, wool, and hemp. However, this requires that the various stakeholders be well-versed in the product and how to use it. Andalusia was chosen because it is the center of cotton grown in Spain, and Catalonia because of its connection to the textile industry. Two regions that can serve as examples of how to boost the sector collaboratively.
The project aims to offer in-person and online training on natural fiber production, green textile manufacturing, the integration of these materials into design, and improved communication to boost consumer spending. The project also includes personalized remote consulting for businesses and freelancers and the dissemination of the most in-demand information.
The project's objective is to unite and coordinate the textile and fashion production sectors with the primary sector (agriculture and livestock), promoting more environmentally sustainable and socially just projects for the production of natural fibers and their use in the textile sector.
