The European Commission plans a new EU budget and asks for citizens' opinions.
Description
The European Commission is preparing the European Union's next long-term budget, called the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) , which will come into force in 2028. To this end, it has launched a public consultation where any citizen, government, or entity can give their opinion on how EU funds should be distributed.
One of the main changes proposed is to simplify the financing programs , reducing them to three large blocks:
1️⃣ A "Single Fund" for each country , which would include key investments and reforms, in addition to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Cohesion Policy.
2️⃣ A European Competitiveness Fund , to support strategic sectors and key technologies.
3️⃣ A fund for external action , with greater impact and aligned with the EU's strategic interests.
Furthermore, the budget is expected to include new measures to protect the rule of law and ensure that funding is sufficient and sustainable.
🔹 Open public consultation : The European Commission invites all citizens to give their opinion on the next budget. The consultation will be open for 12 weeks.
📆 The formal budget proposal will be presented in July 2025 and is expected to be approved by the end of that year.
